Annie and the Old One
Miska Miles; Little, Brown Young Readers 1985
This book tells students much about the Navajo culture and how these Native Americans use their natural, capital, and human resources to satisfy their economic wants. Annie, a Navajo Indian girl, tries to prevent her beloved grandmother from dying. The “old one” has told her family that she will return to the earth when the new rug they are making is finished. Annie does everything she can to delay the project, but her grandmother helps her to understand that she cannot hold back time.
