Fire Fighters
The book describes how men and women go through special training to become firefighters and briefly discusses the work, uniform, tools of fire fighters, and a variety of fire trucks. It discusses the demand for fire protection as a public good and explains what specialized training men and women have to go through to acquire necessary skills for this career.

Have the students keep a notebook for a week in which they make a note of all the community workers they see. The notebook entries should tell where the workers were seen and what they were doing. Have the students share their notebooks with the class after one week.
