Maureen and Paul must earn money to buy the pony Phantom on Pony Penning Day. Their efforts to earn money doing odd jobs around town have unexpected consequences for their grandparents. All things work out, and the children are able to buy the pony and her foal. Near the end, the children have to make a choice about the Phantom and the Pied Piper.
