Tarantula Shoes
In Tarantula Shoes, Ryan O’Keefe moves from Arizona to Kentucky with his parents, twin brother and sister, and his pet tarantula, Fang. Ryan is starting 6th grade and is the newest student in his class. Ryan finds out that the really cool kids will be wearing Slam Dunk Sky Jumpers–basketball shoes that the NBA All Star Hoop Richardson promotes on TV. The shoes cost $124.99, but Ryan doesn’t have enough money. His parents refuse to buy them and Ryan realizes that earning money is hard work. He has to clean the basement, wash the car, scrub under the sink, and work in the garden to earn money. He also comes up with a plan to charge people to see his pet tarantula perform tricks.
