This is a biography of John Hancock, one of the most famous of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, outlining all that he did for himself as well as what he did for Massachusetts and his new nation. He had to make many hard decisions after considering the costs and benefits of each. When King George started issuing taxes to America, he refused to pay them. He went on to become the president of the Second Continental Congress. He was a true American patriot.

Lesson 3, Why were the Colonies frustrated with England?
Students read several historical books to learn the nature of the colonists’ complaints. They then read and interpret the list of grievances from the Declaration of Independence. They learn that in the Constitution, the Founding Fathers sought to avoid in their new government the grievances they had had with English government.
